COMLEX-USA confirmed as required osteopathic licensure examination
The unified GME accreditation effort recently announced in no way alters COMLEX-USA's status as the required examination series and the pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians.
NBOME's Immediate Past Chair, Dr. John Thornburg, was honored with the AOA's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, at the AOA's recent Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition (OMED) in San Diego, California.
The Distinguished Service Certificate recognizes leaders of the osteopathic medical profession who have made outstanding accomplishments and meritorious service in scientific, educational, or professional affairs.
In a press release issued by the AOA, Dr. Thornburg stated: "I am deeply honored to receive such a prominent award for serving the profession that I love," said Dr. Thornburg. "I am proud to be part of a group of physicians who work so hard to ensure Americans receive the level of quality in health care that they deserve, and I am equally proud to support the NBOME's mission to protect the public."

PHILADELPHIA, PA (July 31, 2012) - The NBOME today released its updated Bulletin of Information (BOI) for 2012-2013. It is available online at: http://www.nbome.org/docs/comlexBOI.pdf. The BOI effectively serves as a candidate's "how to" guide for the COMLEX-USA series of examinations, covering information on eligibility, fees, examination descriptions, scheduling, transcripts and much more. It also constitutes a legal contract and outlines a candidate's obligations with respect to confidentiality, professional behavior and irregular conduct.
Only one significant content update was made in the 2012-2013 BOI. Information was added regarding a planned policy change on COMLEX-USA Individual Candidate Attempt Limits. The policy change will go into effect on July 1, 2016. (See page 6 in the BOI for details.)
